Albatross - Their world, their ways.
The albatross has to be the world's most photogenic bird species. Their size, their plumage, their eyes and the locations that they are found in make them wonderful subjects, and yet some of the hardest and most inaccessible birds to capture on camera. This book contains more than 400 images of all 24 species of albatross, and my personal favourite are the Sooties, with their dark plumage, white eye-liner and mysterious smile.
The images are mostly taken by renowned wildife photographer Tui de Roy, and there are some fantastic images. He is joined by the well known albatross academic Mark Jones as well as wildlife author Julian Fitter. There are 18 essays about the science and conservation and detailed descriptions, including distribution maps, detailed description and conservation status.
18 species endangered
This is a coffee table book, and will appeal to anyone who has an interest in albatrosses or who is a lover of spectacular wildlife photography. Eighteen of the world's species of albatross are facing extinction, and bycatch in fisheries is the most significant threat to the family worldwide. This book sets out the case for their urgent conservation and gives practical measures as to how that might happen.
