Only in America, a televised hunting competition.
A hunting association in America is launching the ‘World hunting tour’ (we assume that 'world' means that there will be competitors from Texas AND Oregon) which will involve hunters shooting deer in large enclosures with tranquiliser darts. The WHA (World Hunting Association) is planning a series of televised events to promote their sport. They hope that by televising canned hunting, in what must be a compelling competition whereby men in combat outfits shoot at deer that can’t escape, they will popularize their sport. They do state that they want to practise ‘non-fatal’ hunting in an attempt to broaden their client base, and, very thoughtfully, that they won’t shoot the same deer twice. How kind.September 2006 update.
the 'World Hunting Tour', after some pressure, have agreed to drop the idea of 'dart and release' hunts for their forthcoming competition, and have very kindly agreed to just kill the animals instead.
Hunting, if properly managed is fine, canned hunting is disgraceful, televised canned hunting is unbelieveable.
